KEEP AN EYE ON YOUR CATALYTIC CONVERTER!

HI, EASTGATE RESIDENTS.
ARLENE just forwarded me an email from ANDY BERENTSEN, our liaison with TPD.
- - - Bottom Line: Watch out for your CATALYTIC CONVERTER. Crooks are stealing them.

**********************************

Good Morning All,
The Tallahassee area has noted a rise in the theft of Catalytic Converters
from vehicle exhaust systems. The converters are usually cut from the
vehicle exhaust pipe using a hacksaw or battery operated reciprocating saw.
Targeted vehicles are often Toyota trucks and SUV's due to the ease of
accessing the undercarriage without specialty equipment.

Catalytic Converters are slightly smaller than a muffler and were affixed to
stock exhaust systems on vehicles sold in the U.S. from the 1970's to
current. They contain precious metal in various quantities and are
increasing in resale value to scrap metal yards.

We have experienced this problem at various locations and times, including
daytime hours in public parking lots. If anyone sees anything suspicious,
such as people hanging out in parking lots and/or noises coming from under
cars, please call us (TPD) at 891-4200 and report it.
Thanks,
Andy B.
