HOMEOWNER THANKS HELPFUL NEIGHBORS.

Dear Eastgate Neighbors and Friends,

I received this email Tues. 7/29, which I'm publishing below with permission of the author. It is very uplifting, and it speaks for itself.

It is indeed great to live in a community like Eastgate.

Hi Doug, this is Teresa Harrison who lives at 2705 Bedford Way. As you may already know we had a fire this past Sunday that burned down a section of our deck. Everyone is okay and the deck will be fixed but I am amazed at the neighbors who helped us through this horrific event.

We were having a birthday party for my oldest son and the tiki torches we lit to keep the skeeters away literally collapsed within thirty minutes and started the deck on fire. We did not notice the fire for God only knows how long but when we did there were already people from all over the neighborhood hosing it down, plus one family that helped keep the children situated while all of us worked on putting the fire out before help arrived.

I have no idea who any of these people are and with my being in such a frantic state I most likely would not recognize them on any given day either. I did put a poster on the tree in our front yard thanking everyone but am curious if our gratitude can be mentioned in the next newsletter. I cannot begin to explain how grateful all of us are for these honorable deeds our neighbors did without a second thought so having this opportunity would be most appreciated.

Thank you for your time,

Teresa Harrison

EASTGATE NEIGHBORHOOD YARD SALE!

HERE'S YOUR INVITATION TO PARTICIPATE IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD-WIDE YARD SALE. If you've done it before -- in past years -- then you'll remember how much fun it is. And if you are new to the Neighborhood, you'll see what a great opportunity it is to clear out your unwanted stuff and get to know your neighbors at the same time. In past years we've had either Goodwill or the Salvation Army "sweep through" at about 2pm to collect anything that you left at curbside, but because of rising gas costs, I don't believe that we'll have that service this year.... So I guess we'll just have to pack up our own unsold items and save them for another day!

MARCH 20, 2008 ELECTION OF OFFICERS

The February Meeting of the Eastgate Neighborhood Association was held Thursday, Feb. 28, 2007, at 6:30 P.M. at the Hampton Inn & Suites, 3388 Lonnbladh Road.

Here are some photos of the attendees -- all but me; I'm taking the photos.

These meetings are informative, as there are a lot of "forces-at-play" in our area — proposed development in adjacent areas; vacated residences in our Eastgate; late-night noise in the neighborhood; arson in ADJACENT Kipwood; etc., etc., etc.

We also have many positive programs for which planning is required:
Annual EYS (Eastgate Yard Sale); Toxic Waste Round-Up; Spring "Party" and EasterEgg Hunt.

Now there is a VERY IMPORTANT Meeting coming up — namely the March 20, 2008, meeting, which includes the election of officers. Quite frankly, the current "slate of proposed officers" includes some very familiar faces; most have served year-after-year. This is not because they want to, but because they have to — no one else will step up and serve! So I'm asking, pleading, with you... If you have an ounce of civic pride in your blood, if you really care about this great neighborhood that we live in, if you want to become involved — come to the March 20 meeting, and we'll get you involved!
